This study explores the historical evolution, theoretical frameworks, and pedagogical manifestations of intercultural music education in Italy over the past three decades. Italy’s demographic landscape has undergone profound transformations, shifting from internal south-to-north migrations prior to 1990 to complex international flows from Eastern Europe, North Africa, and Asia, which intensified significantly after 2011. While public and political discourse often frames these migratory flows as a "constant emergency," the Italian pedagogical community has proactively utilized music as a primary vehicle for social integration and cultural agency. This research maps the "Italian path" by analyzing how music education has moved beyond the mere recognition of diversity toward a transformative model of intercultural dialogue.
